The hours are flexible. Upon registering, students may take as many classes as they wish, up to seven in a given week, on any of the days listed above. They may choose to be present on any day, as long as they maintain their consistency.
1st Term White belt classes tend to concentrate on kihon (basics), kata (form) and kumite (combat). The highest belts demonstrate to the lower belts in front of the dojo, while other higher belts are assigned beginner students to guide and help. These classes also refine the fundamentals of karate.
The second class on Friday is reserved for higher belts, and focuses on advanced kihon, kata and kumite. Students must be at least green belt and be equipped with fist protectors for sparring, in order to avoid unnecessary injuries.
Karate Seminars & Karate Marathon giren by guest instructors carry additional charges and will be done twice a year.
The registration is done directly by the sensei. Once registered; within two weeks, if the student does not want to continue for any reason, he/she will receive a full refund. You can fit the training hour's into your schedule and interchange them weekly. Minimum age limit for the children is 6 years old. All children under age 10 are evaluated prior to registration.
THE KARATE GI
Karate gis are the white uniforms in which students train. They are made up of two sets : a top and a pair of pants. Every new gi has a standard white belt included, and comes in several sizes. In the beginning, Sensei will ask for your gi top in order to imprint it with the Nuns' Island JKA official emblem. During that time, you are free to wear clean T-shirts to class. All gis are required to be cleaned and presentable in class.
All karatekas must have at least one karate gi. New students are expected to purchase their first gi. Existing students may choose to purchase a new karate gi at any time.
